Perfume enraptures us by appealing to our senses; after all, it has a direct connection to the brain's emotion centre through the sense of smell.
Wear perfume as you would clothes. First of all shower gel that
leaves a delicate scent on your skin, then body lotion. It
reinforces the scent and moisturizes the skin. Together they are
sufficient as the scent for the day.
For special occasions or in the evening, spray on some eau de
toilette or slightly stronger eau de parfum.
Perfume extract, the queen of scents, is the dot on the ‘i’.
It is used one drop at a time for special purposes. It is quite
strong for use during the day and at work.
Always put the scent onto clean skin on a spot where the blood
circulates well. Such areas include the inside of wrists, the bends
of the elbow, the cleavage, groin, hollow of the knees and ankles.
Avoid the temples and the back of the ears as their fat makes the
scent unpleasant.
Although many of the same raw ingredients are used in
perfumes, each scent is completely unique because of the various
scent combinations. In addition, the quality and warmth of the user’
s skin intensify the individuality of the scent. Therefore, the
same perfume smells different on each user’s skin.
Keep the upper front part of your body, i.e. the area from the
breasts up to the face, free of scent. It is wiser to give a first
impression through one’s presence and look than a stupefying scent
blasting from the front.
If you have a sensitive nose, start using the scent from
below and spray it only as far as the navel. In this way, the scent
cloud travels with you and does not rise up to irritate respiratory
passages.
A considerate user also considers the situations when to use
perfume. For example, scent can be applied only after the theatre
when going out for the evening. Thus, the scent does not disturb
others when among a group of people in close proximity for a long
period of time.
Always test the scent on your own skin because it adapts to the metabolism, heat and pH of the wearer’s skin. Let the scent work on the skin for a few minutes and sniff it only then. Try only a few scents at a time. The sense of smell is most sensitive in the morning.
Perfume will keep in its unopened cardboard packaging for 3–5 years. Once opened, its shelf-life is around 1.5 years, if you keep the scent in its packaging at room temperature with the top tightly closed. Light and heat are the worst enemies of scents.
