How to make skin care part of your routine

“Skin care should be started in a simple way, with only a few products, so that they are used,” explains demonstrator Titta Markkanen, from the Helsinki downtown department store. It is most important to choose care products that are suitable for the skin's condition and skin type right from the start. Nearly all the lines have alternatives for dry, normal and greasy skin.

1. Clean your skin

Clean your skin with a face cleanser in the morning and evening and before shaving. If your skin is fairly dry, use a cleanser only in the evening and rinse your face in the morning with tap water.
In addition to cleansing, exfoliate your skin once a week. Go over in particular the skin on your forehead, nose and chin. Exfoliation brightens and softens the skin.

2. Shave

Always shave with clean skin. Soften the beard hair with shaving foam, gel or oil. In this way, shaving is gentler and the razor glides better over the skin.

3. Soothe the skin

Shaving always makes the skin slightly sensitive. Soothe the skin after shaving with after shave lotion or balsam.

4. Moisturize and protect the skin

The skin keeps in good condition and soft with moisturizing lotion. Lotion also protects the skin from external detrimental factors, such as pollution and the drying effect of the cold.
Choose a lotion in accordance with your skin: a balancing gel is suitable for greasy skin, a lotion for dry skin, and emulsion or lotion for normal skin.

5. Give your skin a little bit extra

If you want to spend a bit more on skin treatment, then choose treatment products. Creams and serums that firm up your skin prevent the skin from becoming flabby and balance and firm up the surface of the skin. Eye creams remove puffiness and the signs of tiredness under the eyes.
A light tan hides the signs of stress and rejuvenates your appearance. Try a tinted moisturizer or a self tanning lotion that gives colour in a couple of hours. You can also colour your face with sun powder.

6. Groom your hands and nails

Well-groomed hands and nails give the finishing touches to a gentleman. The easiest way to care for and nourish nails is to apply nail oil or nail lotion. Hand lotion is also good for men’s hands. Always apply hand lotion to the cuticles and nails as well.
